Trimester 2 - Lesson 2 - Binge drinking

What is the difference between binge drinking and ordinary drinking? How many units are needed and over what time period?

What are the dangers and benefits to binge drinking?

  • Through excessive drinking, what are some of the social issues that may arise as a result of their behaviour?

  • List the long term health issues from a night out like the one viewed?
  • What are the extra dangers for the women?
  • What are the additional health dangers (think sexually)?

Trimester 1 - Lesson 4 - Wounds, Bleeding, Shock, & Burns

Wounds & Bleeding

When it comes to bleeding there are 3 types; Arterial, Venous, & Capillary. There are three definitions below but which definition matches the type of bleed?
  1. Dark Red. Deoxygenated blood that pours from wounds. May flow profusely.
  2. Oozing occurs at the sight of all wounds. Blood loss tends to be slight.
  3. Bright oxygenated blood spurts from a wound in time with the heart beat.
There are 6 types of wound;
•Gunshot
•Abrasion
•Laceration
•Puncture
•Incision
•Contusion
Please give a brief explanation as to what each wound should look like, it might be helpful to add a picture to highlight your understanding and explanation :)

What is shock? What are the signs & symptoms? How can it be treated?

Once you have finished working through this section I would like you to go back over the previous lessons and catch up on any work missed. Next health class, Monday 28th Nov will be your end of unit quiz. I will be using the score gained from that as well as the quality of content on your blog to determine your trimester 1 health score.

Trimester 1 - Lesson 3 - Bandaging

Grade 9 - Today you are lucky enough to have the expertise of Mrs Canon coming to demonstrate how to correctly apply a bandage to various different wounds.

Whilst she is demonstrating & you are practicing I would like you to write down the following pieces of information on your blog:

Bandaging definition
Difference between a bandage and a sling
What exactly can bandages be used for?
General principles of bandaging (think about the wound, which type of bandage to apply)
If you wish to take a picture of yourself bandaging or of you being bandaged up please do so.

Don't forget that Tuesday is your swimming class.

1. mrsmithhealthg9.blogspot.com - This site needs to be saved as a favourite on your computer.

2. You will then create your own google sites page and share this with me. In the name for your site you need to have your first name at the very least as the name of your site. Please make sure that I can edit your site

3. You will then be able to personalise your site. Ensure you click save at the end of every change you make. 

4. Who am I? - Here I would like you to give a few sentences about you as a person. Please include your hobbies, favourite food/sport/movie etc, and also 1 goal that you would like to achieve by the end of grade 9. This can be academic, sporting, in school, or out of school.
